History :

Olivia is the county seat of Renville County, Minnesota. Its population was 2,484 at the 2010 census. Olivia's school system is partnered with Bird Island and Lake Lillian, and operates under the name BOLD Schools (Bird Island, Olivia, Lake Lillian District). The Minnesota Senate has designated Olivia the "Corn Capital of the World". Olivia has been calling itself the "Corn Capital of the World" since 1973, when it erected its well-known 50-foot corn monument in the shape of an ear of corn.

It is located approximately 90 miles from the Twin Cities on U.S. Highway 212, which is part of the original Yellowstone Trail. Taking its name from the famous park and tourist destination, “the road” ran from “Plymouth Rock to Puget Sound.” The Yellowstone Trail Association was founded in 1912 and organized the first transcontinental route through the upper tier of states.

Attractions such as the historic courthouse, public parks, brand-new public library, and indoor pool—just to name a handful—provide relaxation and recreation for people of all interests. A variety of great restaurants presents plenty of dining options, and lodging choices include a modern hotel or camping for free at Memorial Park. A full range of shopping options will meet the need for basic necessities, a taste of local craft and flavor, or souvenirs to last a lifetime. The biggest don’t-miss, however, is the annual Corn Capital Days festival. Celebrated each year around the last full weekend of July, Corn Capital Days features fun and family-friendly live music, parades, a fly-in breakfast courtesy of the Lions Club, the famous Sweet Corn Feed, and so much more.
